Unrolled Once: The Toolroll Card in the First Pocket

October 13, 2026 · AiPronKit Journal

Fictional 28-year-old woman, sleek dark hair falling past her shoulders with a centre parting, smooth warm skin, defined brows and cheekbones, poised direct gaze, at an unrolled canvas tool roll with plain unmarked tools on a studio bench

A tool roll is unrolled once at the start of work, and everything needed is there, in its pocket, in its order. A character kept on a toolroll card is carried the same way. Described from memory at every job, she has to be fetched and re-imagined each time — and every fetching changes her a little. Written once and slipped into the first pocket, she is simply taken out and read.

The card holds five lines in fixed order. Age, a plain number. Hair — colour, length, habitual style. Build in two or three words. Face — one or two enduring details. Signature — the detail that survives a tight crop. Beneath the card sits the day’s line: outfit, bench, hour, light — the things meant to change at every sitting.

Paste the card word for word at the head of every prompt, whichever tool is running. Generate at the standard 6 credits, judge against the card, and let the editor, the swaps and the upscalers work only on what judging has passed — each of them taking the same card from the same pocket.

Eight tools, one roll, one card in the first pocket. That is the entire kit of this studio, and it has never lost a character yet.
